Dry Cupping

Dry Cupping treatment starts with a massage to warm up the body, preparing the area(s) for the treatment. Next, the cups are applied and remain in position for up to 15 minutes – any longer than this is unnecessary and could be very draining on the body. Finally, further massage is given, to encourage movement and release within the body. This can be carried out as a general treatment on the back, or can be applied to specific areas of the body if required.

Dry Cupping is one of the best ways to boost natural energy (Qi) and flow of blood, plasma, and lymph within the body. This treatment is an excellent form of deep tissue release, as the suction of the cups lifts the skin, muscles, and tissues upwards into the cup, releasing pressure from that area of the body.

Cupping relieves inflammation and congestion by increasing the flow of bodily fluids, invigorating our respiratory, digestive, excretory systems and more.

Positioning the cups along the spine (location of the Central Nervous System) can provide immediate relief from stress and anxiety. Releasing pressure and stimulating blood flow along this area calms and nourishes the network of nerves that extend from the central nervous system to the rest of the body.

Many scientific studies have shown that cupping dilates (opens) blood capillaries, which allows increased flow of blood and helps to lower blood pressure. Certain biochemical changes occur in the body at the site of cupping, resulting in activation of the immune system and the lymphatic system, helping to control inflammation within the body.

Will it leave bruises?

Not everybody will have marks after cupping. The circular marks that can be seen after cupping are indicative of stagnant blood and toxins (such as lactic acid) within that area of the body.

It really depends on the individual, and the levels of stagnation and tension within their body. The suction draws the tissues and fluid upwards towards the surface of the skin, therefore more stagnation = a darker mark.

The marks may fade within a few hours or days, depending on the individual. It is recommended to maintain gentle exercise or movement in the days after your treatment, and to drink plenty of water to assist the body as it is working harder to flush out the toxins that have been released in the treatment.
